Getting to know Who's Who in Soroptimist International

Friday 03 August 2007

As part of our editorial discussions we recognised that many members of SI and the Federations do not really identify with the officers who represent Soroptimism at the highest levels.

So we proposed a feature for The Daily News - the Convention newsletter – a question and answer interview similar to those currently popular in the weekend supplements.

As we were not able to include all ten questions and answers in the newsletter, due to limited editorial space, we have now prepared this document, which contains all the replies in full – some questions did not receive answers.

Ramu Damodaran's presentation script

Thursday 02 August 2007

Ramu Damodaran's opening words were “Peace” has traditionally been seen as a desirable destination. The very first reference to it in the United Nations Charter speaks of the resolve 'to practice tolerance and live together in peace with one another as good neighbours' as an objective and end in itself."

Simon Conway's presentation script

Thursday 02 August 2007

“As they descended, the outer casings were released allowing a  number of small anti-personnel bombs to be scattered over a large area. Some exploded on impact with the ground, some landed in  the trees and were suspended by their wings on the branches of trees, others caught on guttering, telephone wires, chimney stacks. The public was asked to report any sighting but under no  circumstances attempt to move them. There was complete terror among the population of the town for many months.”  Simon Comway's opening remarks graphically illustrated the horror of life with anti-personnel bombs.
