We know how keen you all are to see the official Convention photographs. Thank you for being patient - there were thousands to go through before we could put a viable selection in the Photo Gallery. 

There are certain groups of photographs that we were not permitted to include in this Photo Gallery - namely those of HRH The Princess Royal and the Darwen Vale Dance Group. We hope that you understand the prudence of this action.

All the images in these albums were taken by the official Convention photographer, George Mahoney, and none have been changed or enhanced in any way.

The Pre-Opening Ceremony Reception Sunday 29 July 2007

Before the start of the Convention Opening Ceremony a reception took place to welcome Councillor Bob Winter the Lord Provost of Glasgow.

The High Sheriff of Lancashire, chief steward Ruth Winterbottom, wearing her full regalia, easily took the prize for the most splendidly turned out woman of the evening.

Opening Ceremony - Part 1 Sunday 29 July 2007

The Scottish theme to the Opening Ceremony was set when Presidents Lynn and Joan were led to the stage by pipers.

134 national flags were paraded to the stage to music from the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland.

Opening Ceremony - Part 2 Sunday 29 July 2007

An electrifying performance by the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland  delighted  delegates from across the world. 

The weather remained fine as delegates in national dress left the Clyde Auditorium to enjoy the Friendship Evening in the SECC.

Strategic Planning - the process begins! Wednesday 01 August 2007

Never having heard of Soroptimist International before, but having worked with the Strategic Planning Group (SPG) and learned of the organisation’s values and work, consultant Ian Vale said that it was outrageous that not enough people in the world knew about Soroptimism - but the remedy would need the wholehearted commitment, conviction and courage of all members if the organisation was to become a modern force for good in today’s world.

Biennium Reports Wednesday 01 August 2007

IPP Joan Cromer took delegates through the highlights of her biennium, which included visiting local, regional and international projects, visiting clubs around the world, attending conferences, meeting outstanding advocates for women and human rights and meeting disenfranchised children and adults.

SI President Lynn began her presentation by posing the question, "What difference does a day make?” During her biennium she has travelled extensively throughout the world and she seized every opportunity to promote the objectives of SI by working in partnership with other NGOs and women’s organisations, especially at the UN Commission on the Status of Women meetings in New York.

Purpose to Peace Thursday 02 August 2007

The first keynote speaker of this session Ramu Damodaran said - The theme, Purpose to Peace, is a perspective where peace is the ultimate end.

The second speaker, Simon Conway, told delegates that Soroptimist International is a vital force for peace.

And finally, Satish Kumar's presentation - An 8,000 mile Peace Pilgrimage - held the audience in a state of captivation. He had learned that the house of peace stood on the tripod of soil, soul and society.

The Peace Vigil - Preparations Thursday 02 August 2007

The 136 flags were ceremoniously paraded from the platform of the Clyde Auditorium in preparation for the Peace Vigil.

Once outside the flag bearers formed into a ring, into which 1,500 delegates amassed for Women Stand for Peace.

The Peace Vigil - Unified in Our Purpose Thursday 02 August 2007

Six white doves flew over 1,500 Soroptimists who ' Stood for Peace' in a 30-minute vigil at the end of the 18th International Convention in Glasgow.

The flags of Soroptimist International and the United Nations were displayed and 134 flags of member countries formed a ring of delegates in white shirts for Peace.

Teddie Mountain for the children in Malawi Thursday 02 August 2007

The mountain of teddy bears brought to Glasgow by delegates will be taken by the city's Lord Provost to Malawi for children there -  as a sign of our commitment in continuing our work for peace, whether that is locally or internationally.
