The delegates have landed!

We asked fellow Soroptimists "Why are you coming to the Convention in Glasgow?"  And they replied "For Fun and Fellowship".  Read the new messages from California, Athens, Singapore, The Philippines.

Glasgow! Who wants to go to Glasgow?

I want to experience the impact that Soroptimist has on the world - and what better way than to meet with Soroptimist members from around the world? There is so much we do and I want to learn about how other countries impact their communities. This is a once in a lifetime experience!

Bobbi Enderlin, SI Benicia, California, Founder Region, USA, SIA

It is a privilege and great chance for me, after 29 years of Soroptimist life, to attend and participate in another SI Convention.

Allow me to add that this SI Convention is not just another SI Convention. Each SI Convention is a unique ‘Great Event’ for our SI Organization.

I will participate in the 18th SI Convention in Glasgow to enjoy the global spirit of friendship and to acquiring new knowledge in an atmosphere combining stimulus and relaxation.

Let’s hope that we will live marvellous days All Together.

Lala NIicolis,
East Club of Athens, Past Union President

My main purpose is to meet the International sisterhood to exchange ideas and foster everlasting Bonds across Borders and to highlight the projects we are doing in Singapore.

Premala Gopalakrishnakone, President (2006-2008) SI Singapore

I am very excited to attend the Glasgow SI Convention and I am looking forward to savor the beautiful mountains and rivers of Scotland. I love the mountains. I live on the mountain called Tagaytay in the Philippines.

I am very glad my husband is joining me in this trip. I am sure we will have fun. This will also a very good opportunity to make new friends and establish friendship links with other soroptimist clubs of Europe!

I am proud of Filipina SIA President Teresita Choa who inspires us in our mission and vision of Soroptimism.

Amparo J. Araullo, President (2006-2008) Soroptimist International of Manila, Philippines.

Why am I going to the Convention in Glasgow? I have attended three SI Conventions. One in Nottingham, the other in
San Francisco and another in Helsinki. At all these conventions, I made new friendships and met many members from all over the
world. I believe that this is the best chance for me to recognize that I am obviously a member of an international organization, SI.

I will be energized to do my best as a Soroptimist member for the next four years.

Sachiko Inoue SI Hirakata-Chuo, Japan
Public Awareness Chair of Japan Chuo Region

I look very much forward to attend the Convention in Glasgow. This will be my 4th Convention - all the others have been wonderful and have made a great impact on me.

The reasons are many:
Meeting old friends, getting new, listening to the great speakers AND THE Soroptimist role models, hearing about the new projects and plans, having reports from the last four years and last, but not least, renewing the feeling of belonging to the world’s biggest and best organisation for women.

Lisbeth Hass SI Esbjerg, Denmark
Past SI/E Coordinator for IGU, past Follow-up for Eastern Europe, past responsible for Open Heart-Open Door

It seems such a long way to go, but ... It seems such a lot of money to spend, but ...

I REALLY WANT TO BE THERE! Why? Soroptimism is all about friendship - making new friends is certainly on the cards and Programme Action is at the heart of Soroptimism - and this is the ONLY place where I shall find out for myself, what is REALLY happening internationally.

SO ... why go to Glasgow? I can't NOT go! I'll see you there!
Margaret Sandercock SI Southend-on-Sea, United Kingdom

I love being a Soroptimist and I love visiting the UK. I can't think of a better combination for a great trip.
Karen Baird SI La Mesa, California

Summer of 2007 is drawing near, and thus also the “summit-meeting” the SI Convention in Glasgow.
My name is Solveig Haug Urdal, and I am President Elect of the Union of Norway (President October 1, 2007). So that is the main reason why I want to participate at the Convention, listed as delegate.

Just as important is the fact that I want to communicate with Soroptimistsisters from all over the world and learn how the living conditions are in their native countries.

The international aspect of Soroptimism has always attracted me as the most important one, in the hope that the life of less fortunate fellow human beings can be changed into something positive.
Solveig Haug Urdal SI Union of Norway

There are many reasons why I am coming to the Convention. I have always wanted to attend an International Convention and be part of this global voice for women, meeting other Soroptimists from all over the world in friendship, and listening to their ideas on Programme. It is in my own country, so it is easy to travel. I want to support our International President Lynn, who has worked so hard over the last 2 years and has been such an inspiring leader. I am a member of the chatline and I am looking forward to meeting other members in person. I know I would regret it if I let this opportunity pass me by.
Sue Challoner SI Runcorn Frodsham & District, United Kingdom

An easy question to ask - much less easy to answer.
First - I shall see in real life those I read about, those I see in photographs, those who strive for the cause. I will ride once again, as in the course of my cruise around the world, the wave of mutual understanding and exchange of ideas, that way not having to worry as to what to talk about. Once again that glorious feeling of belonging to an important entity. I want to dive again into that Soroptimist world which lies beyond Club- and Union life.

Secondly - I want to see again those I was priviledged to meet in their countries and with them, take up again the thread of friendship, conversation and laughter there where we had left it.
Angelika Harsant SI Linz I, Austria

Since being a member of SI I have attended our own Federation conference each year and also attended the International Convention in Australia. I really enjoy the international side of Soroptimism and I have made many new friends from other countries.
Maggie Orage
SI King's Lynn, United Kingdom

It's plain and simple - I've never been to an International Soroptimist meeting, but Meryll Wilkinson our National president and the Soroptimist magazine made the last convention sound such fun; also Pamela James was at our National Conference and finally of course I have a daughter in Windsor and haven't seen her for too long.
Rosemary Hickman
Cape Town, South Africa

Conventions for me are a must. For friends and fellowship; for rejuvenation of purpose; for the contribution we can make; for reunions of Chatliners, Open House Open Door members; Project tour members; geneology group and more. Location and history make it even more memorable. So I have an opportunity for a holiday and a chance to do some family history research too. Now at over 80 each convention heralds for me the phrase "Will this be the last one I can attend." So from my first in London in 1960 to the current one - nothing beats a Soroptimist Convention"
Meryl Caldwell-Smith AM RN
SI Goulburn, Australia

I shall always remember my first convention. The sounds of so many different voices and languages. Music played, I watched as we were greeted and suddenly I was aware that I really did belong to an International organisation.

I have been to two more conventions since then and that same feeling happens each time. I go away refreshed, with new friends and have had meetings with link club friends.
I will have heard first class speakers and my case will have mementos, addresses, and thoughts and ideas to share wiyh my club.
Glasgow here I come. Try to keep me away!
Jacqueline Wells
SI Ipswich, United Kingdom

A former member of SIGBI transferred to SIE and with little understanding of French, chat line and web sites have kept me in touch
with the Soroptimist activities. I have made many friends around the world and convention is an opportunity to meet up with them as well as learn more about our projects around the world.
Hilary Hampton
SI Angouleme, France, SIE
